Hi all,
Following our excellent full day pelagic out of Stewart Island on 14 Dec we ended with a subadult LEOPARD SEAL on the beach in front of the Post Office in Oban. Looked like it was moulting heavily, but healthy enough. Still there early on 15 Dec.
Cheers,

Amazing what else turns up on Oban beach too. This Sealion has been around for several years, and is as reliable as Santa Claus at Christmas. The kids run down on the beach and taunt it, playing 'tag' to avoid it's snapping jaws. Unfortunately for the lady in the Post Office, it likes to sit in the doorway, often when people are inside. If they can't get out she chases it off with a broom, smacking it on the behind. If she's not quick enough, it craps up the front door and man, you've never smelt anything like it. It also sits in wait for unsuspecting blokes staggering out of the pub/club tanked-up with beer. Needless to say, they have to shift a bit faster than usual, with the attendant sobering effect!
