Tui call

Postby ledzep » Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:40 pm

I heard a different Tui call today on my walk through the Wellington Botanic Gardens. There were at least 4 Tui's, several hundred metres apart, making this same call. Maybe mimicking each other, perhaps territorial. The Tui's were making much else in the way of calls (at least, not in my audible range) just this trilling call. Different and unusual.

I'm still hearing the call on my walks through the Botanic Gardens. Seems to be unique to the area. Distinct piping call being echoed and repeated by at least 3 or 4 birds widely separated. The Tui's in Ngaio and Khandallah don't have this call at the moment.
