Blackcap??

Postby Veronica » Sun Nov 12, 2023 3:32 pm

Hello, I'm new to this but.....out birdwatching yesterday in Hinewai Reserve near Akaroa, and saw within 2-3 metres a warbler with sharply defined black cap. I know blackcaps are not found in NZ; I don't know what else it might have been. No photo sadly. Thanks.

Based on your description and location, Veronica, this is most likely a brown creeper. The have a brown crown and dark grey face, which can appear black in low light.
