I will be visiting the Gold Coast in mid August and am keen to do some local birding for a day. Does anyone have any recommendations for a local tour operator or bird organisation I could contact. From my initial research it looks like a great area for some Aussie birding.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason
It is hard to beat Lamington National Park. Many species there but one of the most stunning is the Regent Bower Bird. They have been feeding these at O'Reilly's since the 1940's so are quite approachable. I found an early morning walk along the road by O'Reilly's rewarding - quite a few different species. Bina Burra (the other place to go within the park) is also good, I got quite a few close-ups of the Eastern Spinebill feeding on Grevillea.
I hope that is of help Jason.

Many years ago I too went to O'Reilly's. King parrots on your head seemed to be quite normal. I just took a tour bus day trip from the coast, so it wasn't really geared toward birders, but still plenty of interesting species seen.
