Ngunguru Beach Wrecks – ID Help Please

Postby ourspot » Wed Jan 31, 2018 7:44 pm

Just got back from checking out the beach wrecks on the ocean side of Ngunguru Sandspit – total of 67 birds on a 2.5km stretch

One was possibly a Pycroft’s but hoping for some help with ID. Here’s some notes (and pics of the bird):
– Bill was approx 23mm (tip looks missing)
– Length 280mm
– Wingspan 600mm
– Legs and feet blue with black tips on the toes

And here’s the full beach wreck list from the day:
20 Fluttering Shearwater
11 Fairy Prion
7 Grey-faced Petrel
5 Buller’s Shearwater
2 Common Diving Petrel
2 Flesh-footed Shearwater
1 Pycrofts ?? Cooks
1 Gannet
1 Little Blue Penguin
1 Tui
16 Unknown (too much missing to accurately ID)

Cheers Scott
