Isn't it so much more enjoyable to talk about the "awesome shags over that side of the lake"? Reef Heron, White Heron, Banded Dotterel, Pukeko, Marsh Crake, Banded Rail are all lovely NZ names, and I reckon they are a neat part of our heritage. Keep em!

Well no, the readers digest book was written when I was still a school boy so its less a case of them agreeing with me, and more a case of me agreeing with them!
