This talk will appeal to a wider audience than usual but should be of interest to anyone interested in wildlife in general.

SPEAKER KATHERINE STEEDS AT BIRDS BOP ON WEDNESDAY 10 AUGUST

Passion for both art and the environment, and a strong background in science gives Katherine Steeds a unique view of our local natural history, including birdlife. She usually works "at the intersection of science and art".

Her recent artwork includes the Godwit Series, and ongoing series of works that link to the migrant wader the Maori call Kuaka, the New Zealand Bar-tailed Godwit. The artwork in this series is fuelled by extensive research that has led at an exploration of aspects of the life, migration, and history of this remarkable little bird.

On a different note, Katherine has recently visited Pohnpei, Palau, Guam and Taiwan on a research trip with Forest and Bird president, Peter Maddison. She will speak about their investigations into the insects, fish and plants of these coutnries and recount her adventures on the trip.

Come and join us for Katherine Steeds' talk at 7pm on Wednesday 10 August. Meetings are held at the Arts & Craft Centre at the Expressway end of Elizabeth Street, Tauranga. All are welcome. A gold coin donation to cover costs is appreciated.
