Glossy Ibis x2 return to Manawatu Estuary

Postby sav » Sat Jul 31, 2010 1:21 pm

The pair of Glossy Ibis first seen by Igor in Sept 09, present more or less continually up until early Jan 10 - but not seen since then (?) were present again this morning. They were in exactly the same location, with Spoonbills opposite the boat ramp.

Another old friend was also seen this morning: the banded Curlew Sandpiper, which was present for most of last summer, was there with 26 Wrybill. I dont think this bird has been seen since about mid-March.

Both Glossy Ibis present again this morning - same place.

Also 4 Cattle Egrets in a paddock along Wylie Rd, Foxton Beach. They were a fair way off the road to the West, almost on the edge of Lake Omanu, with Canada Geese.

Only 4 birds here, apparently none in Wanganui this winter, so are they scarcer further North as well??

The glossy ibis present again today at high tide. Also, the four cattle egrets on Wylie Rd, and one red-necked stint with 13 Wrybill (roosted right out at the mouth of the river).
