Northward migration of BF Terns?

Postby andrewcrossland » Mon Feb 05, 2024 9:40 pm

I was at Spencervile Beach, CHCH, this afternoon and noticed periodic flybys of Black-fronted Terns, all heading north. At least 11 birds flew past in 2 hours, with none flying south.

In previous years migrating BFTs have started to appear at Kapiti Coast sites such as Plimmerton fire station rocks and Waikanae sandspit in late Jan/early Feb.
