There were 92 birds on the sandbank next to the Whakaue Marae yesterday - many in BP. Ken saw them the day before too. This is an annual event. Maketu and Little Waihi hold good numbers of PGPs but at this time of year the number rises and appears to correspond to the combined total of the other flocks from around the BoP. They were very active and calling continuously yesterday. They don't often visit this sandbank until shortly before migration - preferring paddocks and less accessible sites. One of the best birding spectacles in the BoP.
