Brown Teal at Travis Wetland

Postby simon.fordham » Fri May 03, 2024 12:25 pm

A brown teal was present at Travis Wetland yesterday afternoon. From the carpark, this was at the first bit of the wetland you reach before turning left towards the hide.

At first, I did not think this was anything unusual, having seen them here in days gone by. However, Andrew Crossland kindly informed me that it has been at least 10 years since pateke were seen at Travis.

Disappointingly, I also saw a domestic moggy nearby.

Just a follow up that some of the Travis rangers have been out looking for Simon's brown teal this morning but not found it as yet. We're very keen to learn if it is banded so if anyone does relocate it and has a camera at hand, please try to get some leg pics if it comes out of the water. many thanks.

Ben Ackerly is currently on the bird at Travis in the little wetland area you first get to from the main carpark.

It is banded and they’re working on getting the full
Combo.

If that's the band #, do we know when it was banded? Must be ages since the last lot were there.
