Re: miranda today
Not wishing to reignite the pure/hybrid debate, these are three hybrids at Miranda today.

Re: miranda today
Sorry David, but there was no sign of Black-tailed in four hours on Monday, I think Phil's sighting was probably the last.

Re: miranda today
I visited Miranda on Saturday and got great views of the two black-tailed godwits (came to roost on the stilt pond). One was in pretty much full breeding plumage, the other just starting to develop.

Cheers for that guys, hopefully they'll still be around in a few weeks when I'll next visit.

Wendi and Keith report 6 blackwits in front of the hide last night - all in varying stages of breeding plumage.

Re: miranda today
I believe we had 4 or 5 during the Youth Camp in April last year. The non-breeders were in their own flock (pictured with one barwit in the centre), and there were a couple breeders among the barwits. That's the most I've heard of before.

Apparently there were also 6 at Miranda in 1959 but Christchurch has had bigger flocks 11 at Lake Ellesmere in 1985 according to NZ birds on line.

A group of Five Black-t Godwits, in various stages of breeding plumage, at the North end of the stilt pools this afternoon. One Sharp-t Sandpiper at the South end.
