No sign of the gull this morning at Te Ahiaua Reserve or further east along Waiotahi Beach where I saw it last night. I'm nearly out bread! Keep searching the red-billed flocks & best of luck to anyone looking.

Showing well at about 12.30pm at a stream mouth near the pull-in with the two ornately carved poles. That's about 5 mins passed the picnic site on the way to Opotiki. Some nice photos in the bag. Must be near where you saw it Alan? Then off to West End Ohope for a chilly surf and beachy picnic...
Happy New Year everyone.
Tim

If anyone is looking, Phil is on the bird right now at the picnic site.

Hi Tim - yes where I saw it was a little to the west of the carved poles. Good that it's turned up back at the reserve again, as it wasn't there yesterday afternoon. Cheers Alan

Just saw the bird in opotiki at mac and trishes home on the corner of princess and wharf st. lovely couple who love birds and feed the gulls. They first noticed it a month ago and called it a quacking bird because of the sounds it makes. Mac thought there was another similar but smaller bird also.

I have just had a call from Paul G to say he had just seen the bird a little west of the totem poles around 1450.
