Had a look this afternoon and no sign of it. Also looked on Tuesday evening with no luck so it might have moved on from the Pier Hotel area.

Got told of an unusual visitor to Kaikoura this afternoon - so went down for a look.
Erect crested penguin moulting on limestone platform adjacent to Wairepo lagoon on Kaikoura peninsula. Location about -42.4218 173.7132 this evening - 3 Feb 2017

That's not a good place for a moulting penguin as many people walk along the shore from Jimmy Armer's Beach to the seal colony at Point Kean. It may need some help from Lindsay!

I'm sorry this is late, but the ECP was present yesterday morning, at the same location. Seen by a couple of our tourists.

Penguin was still present at midday today at -42.422150, 173.713479 in the first bay north-west of the car park at the point. Standing on a rock at the base of the shingle bank between the limestone shelf and the road.

My wife Ailsa went down to photograph it this morning and it actually hopped right up to her, to check her out.
Looking much prettier than it was last week.

It was still present, in the same place, this morning. I suspect it won't stay much longer as it looks almost pristine.
