Lake Ellesmere sightings 01 April 2017

Spent a great afternoon in the area of Lake Ellesmere between the Jarvis Road entry and Embanksment Road entry.

The highlights included

At the Embankment Road end: A large flock of wrybill (estimate 200 birds) with a a single Curlew Sandpiper in their midst and several red-necked stint.

At the Jarvis Road end a flock of eight red-necked stint with one bird in breeding plumage. Numerous wrybill this end also but very scattered, and literally hundreds of banded dotterel right across the area.

Large flock of royal spoonbill (estimate of upwards of 300 birds)

Three white heron

Numerous juvenile and non-breeding Caspian tern
