21 Days around NZ - the first 2 weeks.

Hi all,

Highlights of our 21 day NZ Tour so far are :
Great looks at 3 NI Brown Kiwis at Trounson Forest.
Fairy Tern at Waipu
Kookaburra near Matakana
All the usuals at Tawharanui (except Takahe)
Excellent views of NZ Storm-petrel and Little Shearwater on the Hauraki Gulf along with all the other expected species, and Mottled Petrel.
All Tiritiri's specials including 2 brilliant looks at Little Spotted Kiwi - but still no Takahe!
A poor showing at Miranda, but 50-ish Wrybill and a Sharp-tailed Sand.
Pycroft's Petrel and another showy Little Shear off Whitianga.
NZ Falcon and both Cuckoos showing at Pureora.
2 Blue Ducks and well grown juvenile at Turangi.
3 more NZ Falcons in Hawkes Bay. Shore Plover, Plumed Whistling Ducks.
NZ Falcon in Tory Channel from the ferry.
13 King Shags, pair of OF Parakeets copulating (!!), SI Saddleback and Yellowhead on Bluemine Is.
6 juvenile and 2 adult Glossy Ibis , plus pair of Cirl Buntings at Blenheim.
Northern and Southern Royal Alb, Black-browed Alb, Grey-faced Petrel at Kaikoura.

All the other usual suspects through the trip so far - list stands at 139. A paucity of decent shorebirds has kept the tally low, and some things seeming scarce in the hot, dry conditions - like only a couple of Kea at Arthur's Pass yesterday.

Plenty more to come in the next 8 days though.......

cheers
