Pink-footed Shearwater at Kaikoura

Postby sav » Tue Feb 13, 2018 2:07 pm

I've just seen photos, via Garry Melville, of what appears to be a dead cert Pink-footed Shearwater off Kaikoura yesterday. I'll get a link to them, or permission to post here if I can.

It must be Pink- ###### week in NZ!?

cheers

Definitely not the same, the bill is quite different in the bottom photo. I liked the suggestion of a bullers x flesh-footed hybrid.

Sorry for the confusion - I wanted to delete my post but I was too late. Here are the photos again, the bird in question is marked with the "?". It appears to have a bright bill and the plumage appears to have a different hue. Thanks to everyone who sent me comments. Hutton's or Fluttering Shearwater are of course the most likely candidates but, nevertheless, I think the bird looks odd. It probably doesn't make much sense to discuss the ID further. I just wanted to upload the photo again because it is simply a funny-looking bird.
Cheers,
Matthias
