Hi everyone,
I'm in the Queenstown area again and had another look for the marsh crakes at Lake Hayes yesterday (28th February).
They are still there .... saw, photographed and managed some video of two birds feeding under thick lake side vegetation.
The council (I presume) have knocked over a large area of willows that were surrounding the lake edge and giving the raupo edges some protection (privacy) which is a shame. However, these two birds were in that area so doesn't seem to have affected them.
Video can be seen here .... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/n-vCZ9 ... 4-1920.mp4

Re: Marsh Crake - Lake Hayes
Its a shame councils are seemly a law unto themselves, Up here and BOP they spray herbicides randomly around all drains ,wetlands etc . One would think it was obvious that this causes bird mortality.
It seems now there are no advocacy for our wildlife as DOC are primarily concerned with tourism and money collection..
