My wife rang me to say she had seen a Myna and were they common here. I went to the area and sure enough there was a myna (photo to come)
On the red zone land in the block bordered by New Brighton Road, Hawke Street, Keyes Road, Pratt Street.
Was quite happy feeding in the grass with a few starlings nearby.
Maybe an escapee.

I wonder if anyone has alerted Andrew Crossland about this?

Yes, Christchurch City Council advised with request to pass on to Andrew.

Went and had another look today (in the grotty weather) but no birds on the red zone land at all. Heaps of big cabbage trees and a couple of phoenix palms (have seen many myna up north in both trees), so maybe tucked up away from the weather.

Still present Wednesday am (11:30). Spotted from Hawke Street, but in the same general area.

Re: Myna in New Brighton, Christchurch
Hi folks, ive let ECAN staff know (they are responsible for biodiversity threats) and will bring this myna up with ECAN's pest manager when I meet him tomorrow. Unlike thd pair which came off a ship at Lyttelton port several years ago (and which were promptly removed) , this single bird obviously hasn't got breeding potential so it may or may not end up being discretely despatched.

Here is the uncropped image to show where bird was when first seen on Monday in relation to the fence behind house repairs for a house on Keyes Road.
