Northern Shoveler, Waitangi HB

Postby tim » Sun Apr 22, 2018 5:39 pm

one adult in breeding plumage observed taking off in flight with a group of other shovelers.
Very full white chest and colourful.
The bird was completly different too all other Aus Shovelers seen and in flight.
It flew to the roadside wetland between railway lines and road.

Sav said he is going to have a look for it tomorrow and the common tern.
Sorry no photos of the shoveler as I couldnt relocate the bird at the other wetland.

And tomorrow the Northern shoveler will be gone to Australia, on way to Asia by tomorrow.

I found and photographed an Australasian Shoveler with an unusually white breast at the Southern Marsh Reserve next to the Ahuriri Estuary in Napier yesterday morning.
