Mystery Bird #9 - The answer

Postby sav » Tue Mar 22, 2011 8:23 pm

Hi folks,

The sounds are very hard if you dont know them straight away. I guess that a decent set of recordings make it possible to ID any sound that is set - but even that isnt foolproof with new recordings like this one. The subject bird was recorded on one of the Mercury Islands by Neil in Oct 2010. 9 of the 13 answers were correct - it is a Common Diving Petrel.

I'll admit that I would have struggled to reach that conclusion myself. Tony got it wrong, so the competition has just been blown wide open!!

Next month's photo is a stinker........
