Mystery Bird #3 The Answer

OK, its a fair cop - this was too hard!! Only 12 people attempted the answer, so I guess that a bunch of others didnt get to the point where they thought they had a sensible one. Five got it right and, remarkably, Igor was not one of them.....

The answers that did come in showed an amazing degree of variation - raptor, shorebird, passerine and the one which was correct! I think all the answers were sort of plausible, but I wonder how many will listen again once the true identity is revealed and say "Oh, of course!!".

The bird was in fact a Brown Quail (and yes, Jan, it was recorded on Tiritiri).

Photo next month. Something easy (yeah right!)

cheers

Yes, a bit tough I guess.
Here is another recording of the "plaintive languid 'ker-wee', the second syllable drawn out and with a rising inflection" (Heather & Robertson).

I see that 4 of the 5 people who got it right live, or have lived, on the latitude of Coromandel or north, and all must have no doubt visited Tiritiri. I think Jan deserves a bonus point for getting it right from so far away!

Thank you Phil, so do I! Especially since I've probably dipped on the 4th one.
