I'd guess they'd be the same as those in nearby lake ellesmere - I'd live to know what species they are?

I dont know whats species sorry, the two i saw i found on my lips, they were only 10 mm long after having fed and brown, maybe they are two small to have fed through skin and found the skin on lips thinner. I asked an entomologist at Lincoln uni if he knew anything about them but of no assistance

Thanks for posting the vid. It appears to be moving quite fast than the normal leeches I'm used to seeing. Almost like it's on the offensive.

I found one of those outside my house here in Whangarei on Wednesday. I’m going to be doing further research and collect some to study
