Looking out to sea with my binos from the Raumati beachiside cafe there was a pod of dolphins off the southern end of Kapiti. An angler's boat made a beeline for them at top speed, circled round them at speed, then moved off. Next, it tore past the pod again at speed before heading inshore. How crass and familiarly typical of much behaviour here towards nature (Waikanae Estuary shenanigans etc).
Discuss natural history subjects not strictly related to birds. Reports of interesting mammal, reptile, and invertebrate sightings are welcome.
