New genetic study of Black-fronted Tern

Postby Michael Szabo » Thu Oct 03, 2019 1:14 pm

A new genetic study of the endangered endemic Black‐fronted Tern (Anne-Kathrin V. Schlesselmann et al) has found a morphometric cline with individuals being larger in the south compared to the north of the South Island in three traits (head‐bill length, bill depth, weight), and contrasting patterns of population structure at large and fine geographical scales. The study includes a map showing the location of Black-fronted Tern colonies in the South Island.
