Mystery Bird #8 - The Answer

Postby sav » Thu Mar 18, 2010 10:07 am

I'm not quite sure how to start this answer.....I suppose the fact that 13 out of 18 entrants got it correct means that it was fairly straightforward - but it certainly fooled some of you!

The size of the bird is reasonably easy to determine in relation to the grass it is standing on. The brown, streaky plumage with grey tinges around the neck and orange legs point to only one species in my view. It is a DUNNOCK, and Brent will shortly post a more obliging pose of the same bird.

I imagine that those of you who failed to identify it just did not consider Dunnock - they are so unobtrusive in life (and in bird books) that they are easy enough to forget! And I am fairly certain that one entrant wrote House Sparrow when he really meant something else (PHIL!!).

Igor still has all answers correct, but maybe he will trip up in the next few months so dont give up the chase!
Next month something more difficult.........
