Dunnock
Prunella modularis
Grey around the neck (and presumably head), orange tinge to leg, and white spot-tipped primary coverts, seperate from female house sparrow.

My first thought was weka! But on reflection it has to be a lot smaller - I'm going to go with dunnock.

Looks to me like a small weka in big grass! Probably the chestnut western form, though the Chatham Island ones look this colour in my photos, despite H&R saying pale buff.

Prunella modularis, dunnock. Sweet little bird with horrible habits, like my dogs.

Dunnock, based on the orange-brown legs and streaked brown back.
