One of those tattler jobs. Have to get sav's instruction sheet out and post a more detailed answer. Jan

I think it is a wandering tattler, based on the length of the white eye stripe (not sure if the autoreply will identify me: Quentin Paynter).

GREY TAILED TATTLER
Tringa brevipes
non-breeding plumage

1) first apparent is the shorter nasal grove, stout wedged bill, yellow legs, the following comination also seperate it from Wandering Tattler

2)supercilium extends beyond eye, although fainter.
3)light margins to the feathers on the mantle
4)lighter grey wash than non-breeding
(the wings are held slightly dropped in this pose, conceealing the flanks, which would provide another cue as to the extent of the scalloping)

Photo is of a Wandering/Arctic Tattler because it has wings protruding beyond tail, long "primary projection". This is not that obvious from the angle of the pic, though. The supercilium is broad and only runs to above the eye and not beyond.
It is impossible to tell if it meets above the beak though.
This is not the same sp as the one I have seen at the ashley est. a few times recently, and I understand is not as often visiting. Same as in Oz.
I like these birds, Nick thinks they are boring, hope he gets the answer wrong!

General structure and colouration looks like a tattler - I'll go for grey-tailed based on the overall pale plumage and the estuarine habitat
