Unidentified Whistling-Duck? Australian IOT

Postby SomesBirder » Thu Sep 23, 2021 11:59 am

I am aware that this involves a different ocean, but I think that the subject fits this sub-forum better than any of the others.
A few years ago I saw a comment on an Australian birding website which mentioned that a dead whistling-duck was found in a water tank at an oxidation pond in one of Australia's Indian Ocean Territories; either Christmas Island or the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, but I can't remember exactly which. I think that the comment intended to imply that the duck in question was a Lesser Whistling-Duck, which has not been recorded in Australia.
Has anyone else heard of this record? I have not been able to find the comment since I first saw it, and I would really like to know whether anyone even tried to find out what species the whistling-duck specimen was.
