Are there any other 'bird-nerds' (and proud of it) in or near Hamilton? No one that I've met at HBHS is really interested...
I just got back from 6 months in Papua New Guinea (missions trip), leaving me with a renewed interest in birds.
By the way, birds of paradise are really cool...
Thanks!
Liam

I shall volunteer Michael Burton-Smith, a decentish birder who lives in Hilcrest, Hamilton. He's 14 by the way.

Hi,

I am the famous Michael, the stunning chap in the above photo. Yes, I am a local proud bird-nerd from in or near Hamilton (as in Hillcrest). If you'd like to get in touch feel free to PM me...

Yep I’m here!
Young birders seem to come in waves. Every couple of years new birders come in and most of the old seem to leave (there are the few that stay).
Pretty cool to see how all of the young birders all seem to be from different locations around NZ.
I know of a few other young birders around my parts in Christchurch but it’s safe to say not too many.
Anyways it there are other young birders out there hopefully this will give them a chance to speak up.

I am a young birder, but I have only been one for about a year or two, and I am the only wellington young birder that I know of.

If you want to meet some other birders (not particularly young) I would suggest joining the BirdsNZ society (also known as the OSNZ). The society sendouts four different bird magazines a year, Host monthly regional meetings and help do birdcounts and other ornithology work.
I’ve also heard about Forest and Bird NZ doing youth clubs and youth conservation work but I’m not sure exactly since I’m not a part of it
