The Bird ID Quiz Begins! #1 JANUARY

Post by Samsperdy »

Hi All,
Welcome to the new Bird ID Quiz for 2023!
This quiz is open to all ages, not just young birders so feel free to answer and give some feedback.
We'll start off this year with some seabird identification!
To answer, just reply to this post and the answer will be revealed next month before the next bird quiz.
Thank you to Oscar Thomas for the photos.
Good Luck!
Sam

Thin-billed prion - reduced black in the tail, weak M pattern on back, strongly marked "cute" face and small bill.

Bonus points for guessing where it was taken? I'm guessing about 30 km west of Kawhia (Waikato).

To be fair, I was there and it's the only one I've seen, and I know Oscar was there too. I remember the tail and face looking very different to all the fairy prions it was with.
