Bird Quiz #3

Postby Michael » Sun May 08, 2016 7:47 pm

Hello all,

Continuing from last week, it's another picture-notes hybrid. Next week, I shall see if I can sort out a call, just to stretch you.

This week's bird is not going to be familiar to all of you, but is a bird in your guides, and quite easy to identify if you use your guides well.

Otago, 16/09/15, 4:30pm
Walking out to the shed in late afternoon. Noticed this small bird in my backyard. Habitat very open farmland, a few shelter banks. Flew away after disturbance to sit on lamppost. Went to look for it later, couldn't relocate.

Yes, we are still looking for an incorrect answer! This is a Little Owl, German Owl, Athene noctua or Brown Owl.

You guys are just to good! Unfortunately, I cannot find a quality sound recording yet, but I am delighted to announce Ian Southey has donated some of his pictures. Be prepared for a challenge!!
