All right bird call specialists out there, try your best. Heard somewhere near Kohukohunui Track, Hunua Ranges in Auckland. In the Kokako management area. The bird was in the canopy, maybe 8 m up. 2 short notes, repeated. It was kind of a buzzy/rattley sound. We approached it and it flew off. Didn't actually see anything unfortunately. Possibly a warning call.
On another note, we heard Kokako quite a few times, but didn't manage to sight any.
