Wader Conservation World Watch - 6 & 7 November

Postby sav » Mon Oct 25, 2021 1:18 pm

Hi all,

The brilliant team from Wader Quest in UK (a registered charity) are organising a world-wide wader watching event in November - something that they have done now for several years. This year it is Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 November.

The concept is wonderfully simple - you go out, see waders (shorebirds) and let Wader Quest know. They then tally up the species count across the globe, all in aid of public interest in wader conservation.

I'm more than happy to collate records from New Zealand, so please send to me at savATwrybill-tours.com

Most of our migratory shorebirds will be seen in other places, but of course it will be up to us to find Black Stilt, Wrybill, both Oystercatchers, NZ and Banded Dotterel. They have never recorded Chatham Oystercatcher nor Snipe, Snares Snipe, Shore Plover - so maybe someone can add one or more of those?

There is lots more info at https://linktr.ee/WaderQuest

Thanks in advance for any help.

cheers

Will do my best to get Kaki, Wrybill, Banded Dott and SIPO assuming I’m working one or either of those days!

Hi all,

If anyone was out and about over the weekend, and has any shorebird/wader records, I'd love to use them for the guys at Wader Watch. Of particular interest will be our endemic species, but anything helps!

Please send species and location to me - either via this thread or to savATwrybill-tours.com

cheers

Hey Sav
We had a DOC team on Rangatira/Southeast island on those dates. They have sightings for Chatham Island Oystercatcher, snipe and Shore plover.
Is that all the info you need?
