Bluebottle entangled penguin carcass

Postby Raewyn » Sun May 29, 2022 9:58 pm

At Spirits Bay, the day after a bit of a washup of Bluebottles and By-theWind-Sailors, a dead penguin washed ashore which had Bluebottle tentacles wrapped around it. Is it likely to have become entangled after it died? Or could it have succumbed to the Bluebottle stings?

Over the time we were there, there were three other dead penguins and I understand that there have been recent significant penguin deaths in various parts of Northland. I can't help wondering about this one though.
