Hi everyone,
I am going to Greymouth in the weekend. I was wondering if any of you guys know any good birding spots over around the west coast. If so, are any of these spots any good: Greymouth river mouth (apparently good for some sea watching), The rocks at Punakaiki (apparently there’s a breeding colony of Westland petrel) and Cape Foulmouth (a bit far from Greymouth but I have heard it is a really good seawatching spot).

Lots of great nearby spots posted in this thread recently. All of the places you've listed should be pretty good too, also could head up to Arthur's Pass for some alpine species - not too far. Most of the ebird hotspots around tend to be pretty good places for birding.

Greymouth itself is alright for waterbirds in the local lagoons, river mouth, and offshore. You have listed some good sites though I think you mean Cape FoulWIND?

An underbirded part of the world to be sure.

Talking about waterbirds would you happen to know anything about Whio near Greymouth? As I heard they are distributed along the West Coast.

Your best bet for Whio near Greymouth is probably on the Old Christchurch Road, at a spot called Kawhaka Creek: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L3539745

Google maps will take you as far as here: https://goo.gl/maps/hhshLjyrrUH7tTBM6 - after which turn left and follow the water race down to the dam. The ducks have been seen often just beyond the dam, and at various spots along the creek and water race there.
