I recently inspected a falcon nest on an island in the Outer Sounds. The nest had been successful and the site was littered with prey remains. Red billed gull remains were very evident but there were also the remains of two fluttering shearwaters. I'd be fascinated to learn if there are any obs of falcon taking shearwaters on the wing over water. The nearest f/shw colony I know of is c.2km away from the nest.

Interesting observation. What island was it? Fluttering shearwaters seem to be on most of the islands in the outer sounds even if in small numbers.
