You can email me here: russellcannings79 AT gmail.com

I basically do all the hotspot reviewing though sometimes the queue piles up a bit (as I also manage several other countries) and I haven't had much time to manually look for issues so I do appreciate it when people point out problems (e.g. Locations to merge, incorrect names or marker placements, etc.).

Don’t know where this thought should live on the forum - but something that is just very slightly annoying, is when I see hotspots, and areas of the map around those hotspots, wrongly coded for region. An example is the Auckland city to Rangitoto ferry, which eBird insists is in the Waitakeres despite it obviously being in Auckland City. It’s a very, very minor thing I guess. Can location errors be re-designated in any way? (There are many such errors, including Miranda Stilt hide pool, believe it or not).

Hi Mike, not sure what you are referring to here as when I look at the eBird Explore Hotspots page these are in the correct spots. Are you seeing user's personal locations as opposed to hotspots? These are much more often mapped erroneously, and reviewers contact the observer so they can correct the observation (if they don't it would then be hidden from the public output).

These pics show the exact inaccuracies I referred to, Oscar. The ferry shouldn't be designated as being in Waitakere City, it should be Auckland City, and you'll notice that all the other hotspots at Miranda surrounding this one are correctly in Franklin district, while the stilt hide is incorrectly in Hauraki district. It's a tiny thing, but they are wrong, and there are other examples, but I was just wondering how they come to be wrong, and whether anyone ever corrects these things? Just interested in the method behind it all really.

Hi Mike,

That Waitak City thing is indeed weird--either a glitch or some strange way of setting up the original polygons. Cornell will probably need to edit that.

As for Miranda--the Franklin District is----alas-----no more. The Waikato portion has been swallowed up by the Waikato District in the west and the Hauraki District in the east (Google "Hauraki District Map" for the latest). The northern portion of Franklin is now part of Auckland City.

Interestingly though, while eBird lists the locations as being in Hauraki (and will update your personal Hauraki life list accordingly), your Franklin District lists (both Auckland and Waikato sections) will still exist simultaneously.
