Dr Colin Miskelly has been awarded the Cranwell Medal by The New Zealand Association of Scientists (NZAS), which is among the most prestigious medals awarded across all fields of research in New Zealand.
Colin is the curator of vertebrates at Te Papa and a Council member of Birds New Zealand. He has been instrumental in advancing the understanding of New Zealand’s unique bird species. He has played a key part in developing educational programmes and exhibitions at Te Papa that engage the public and promote awareness about bird conservation; including writing over 200 science blogs and leading the creation of New Zealand Birds Online, a vital resource for understanding our unique wildlife.
With his cheerful personality, his enthusiasm and willingness to share his knowledge about birds, Dr Colin has encouraged and supported his friends, colleagues, and others to become careful observers of birds in understanding our unique wildlife.

I was unaware that I had been nominated, and so it was a big surprise when I was contacted with the news (via email while on a yacht returning from Antipodes Island, thanks to Elon Musk's Starlink).
