wow, that is definitely the closest sound i have ever listened to online. why would i ever only hear it at night? any ideas? thanks

They spend the day feeding at sea, then fly in to their colonies at night, heading away again before dawn. So it's only at night time that they over-fly the mainland. And the Warkworth area is pretty much the only place where Cook's petrels do that at all, so it's pretty special!

Hi Julia,
As others have stated they’re definitely Cooks petrels. I’m on Codfish island at the moment doing night work with diving petrels and we heard a fair few cooks and mottleds that sound exactly like that! A pretty awesome thing to be hearing though I must say.
