Heron Legs

Postby imogen » Wed Jul 18, 2018 5:00 pm

Just wondering if there is a significance for the red legs of this white-faced heron. The first photo is (I think) of one of this year's young herons, bred on the estuary, with characteristic yellow legs. The second was taken the same day of (again I think) an older bird in the same location. Are the red legs to do with age, breeding or something else?
