This is a copy of the latest Miranda posting that may hopefully help anyone visiting having an unexpected problem
"As many of you will be aware we aim to catch Pacific Golden Plovers and fit them with GPS locator tags.
The catching is scheduled to take place within the period 18 - 26 February 2019. PGPs are extremely wary and will be difficult to catch so at this stage we do not know how long it will take to get the required birds - it could happen on the first day or could be more protracted. The catching site will be in the vicinity of their favoured roost area at the Limeworks.
This will mean that when catching attempts are being made, access to the hides and trail from the car park will, from time to time, need to be closed. Access to the car park itself will also be restricted. This is most likely to be on a rising tide, but could happen at any time. The Stilt Hide and Wrybill Hide will only be accessible via the walking trail from the Shorebird Centre.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and will try and keep these restricted times to a minimum. If all goes well we will get to know more about these handsome birds - where they come from and which routes they take on migration - and maybe some ideas for addressing their declining population."
Cheers,
Grahame

Re: Miranda - forthcoming restrictions
How about banding some Pacific Golden Plovers at Lake Ellesmere? I could probably arrange some funding for some GPS locator tags. cheers.

Re: Miranda - forthcoming restrictions
Due to a sudden change in the roosting location of the Pacific Golden Plover to the north end of the stilt hide, there may be a last minute change to the restrictions. To avoid a wasted journey, it may pay to ring the Shorebird Centre on 09 232 2781 before you travel.
