Quardle oodle ardle wardle doodle? That's from the Field Guide to Birds of New Zealand, whose authors credit the poet Denis Glover. Australian Magpie.

It could be a Spur-Winged Plover. “kitter-kitter-kitter-kitter”.
133 birds on my life list since 17 June 2020, latest bird Common Tern.
93 birds on my 2024 year list as of 6:50pm 13 January, latest bird Indian Peafowl.

Oh, I love that one! Though I also love the Australian version: 'Waddle giggle gargle paddle poodle'.

If you’re asking a question about a bird you heard in a country other than New Zealand, it makes no sense to put it on BirdingNZ.

BTW if you are in New Zealand, my next guess is Eurasian (Australian) Coot.

Are any of these examples of onomatopoeia?

I think not. Surely they are just descriptions of sounds.
