I'd be pretty stoked to find one of these walking amongst the pohutukawa and toe toe on a Northland beach somewhere. I reckon my phone would be running pretty hot as folks took sickie's off work, booked flights or otherwise found a way to get up there real quick!!

I think that this is what one might see upon visiting the house of a friend of a friend who is "crazy about birds".

There's obviously a lot of money to be made supplying the market demand for paintings of the wrong NZ Kingfisher?Kotare !!

But once again, there's some great NZ bird artist talent out there!

What do folks make of the gull in the top left corner of this web page? Look at its eye and skin colour around the eye ......…

Not just birds. Here's a recent article featuring a picture of a kotukutuku, Fuchsia excorticata, that's actually an exotic species.

Maybe a European herring gull? This one seems to have a fairly similar shape and size of the eye ring, but I can't say the same about the colour.

An interesting contribution to the national craze of celebrating the wrong kingfisher by the Rotorua City Council, but I'm impressed they have a Chestnut-breasted Shelduck on the same mural. That's class!!
