Aussie Bird Guide Paul Hackett Killed in Accident

Postby kengeorge » Sat Sep 07, 2019 8:20 pm

Just heard the sad news that Melbourne based bird guide Paul Hackett (Melbourne Birding Tours) was killed in an accident on a tour in Queensland last month. Many of us would have had excellent days out at Werribee, the Dandenongs and The You Yangs (and further afield) with Paul over the years. My Werribee tick list was certainly enhanced by Paul's expertise. He'll be missed by both local and international birders visiting Victoria. From Paul's wife Liz's email "The over 180 5 star reviews he had on TripAdvisor was testament to the dedication, detail, care and effort he put into every tour. Every tour was a new chance to met more wonderful birders for all around the world and share in his quiet but incredible love for Australia's birdlife and other fauna."

That is very sad, Ken. We first met Paul in 2006 during an Easter Camp and subsequent 'Tag-along' with mutual friends from Melbourne. He was well respected and liked. His Trip Advisor reviews are testament to this - Of 188, 183 are 'Excellent' and the other five are 'Very Good'.
