If someone could please explain whatever this is, that would be great.

The Laughing Kookaburra and Kea would both be North Island Kākā. Pīpipi/Brown Creeper I think would be Dunnock.

Thanks. I had figured out the kea/kaka, but wondered if it was a sacred Kingfisher rather than kookaburra.

if the observer is from europe, then our Kotare is very different and I think Alfie is correct. Our Kingfishers are not the stereotypical european one that hunts fish. it is one of those Kinghunters that prey on land animals like lizards, large insects and small birds.

It seems to me the bird is most likely a Kingfisher Rather than a Kookaburra. Recently a birder at the Waitohu Estuary told me as I was walking down the track, She was Returning. That she had seen 3 kookaburras i asked if she was sure, she said 100 percent she pointed down the track to where i could see a single kingfisher, saying that's the kookaburra there. I explained that it was not a Kookaburra and actually a Sacred Kingfisher she then said she really thought it was a Kookaburra. I promptly pointed at the bird and then at the bird picture in my book she then accepted the bird as a Kingfisher. She Seemed very sure it was a Kookaburra though.

Though I have seen a Kōtare at the Botanic Gardens before, because of the description of three Laughing Kookaburra "climbing in tree", as well as the facts that both the Kākā and the Laughing Kookaburra are medium-sized bird species that have a lot of brown colouration and make a lot of noise at times, Kākā is my pick.

Regarding the lincoln paddocks site, yes, there are Cape Barren Geese there, most likely domestic pets. Mohua is a mistake, I expect.
The weird list from Wellington could well be kaka for both Kookaburra and Kea, but climbing in tree and hopping aren't exactly the same for the same large sized bird?
