Re: Obviously incorrect reports on eBird
A couple of questionable Pacific golden plover records from well inland in Tasman. The comments on the first one indicate it should be a spur-winged plover, PGP was likely entered by mistake.

Re: Obviously incorrect reports on eBird
hey Wrybill, you are prob correct to question the Mohua in central Queenstown, tho' the person might have been including them in a wider eBird list from up the valleys. But that's unlikely seeing the other species noted.
The Intermediate Egret was seen by the esteemed gentleman who is the president of BirdsNZ, so should know a thing or 2...... Egrets have been seen at Milford before and put as Intermediate, but changed to Great E in the past. So watch this space!!! You could be right!

Wrybill, you are querying a sighting made 10 years ago! It was fully discussed at the time and could be found by searching birdingnz.net for dates around then.

As always, thanks all for these. The team will be following up where appropriate. From memory I think that egret was initially IDed as an Intermediate before the consensus shifted to kotuku? Will let the Southland guys investigate.

Unusual Bird Report 2012/58 Plumed egret, Milford Sound, Feb 2012 was assessed by the Records Appraisal Committee, and determined to be a kōtuku based on the images submitted:
Plumed egret (Ardea intermedia)
One reported from the head of Milford Sound in Feb 2012 (UBR 2012/58) was identified from photographs as a white heron (A. modesta). The RAC were split on the identity of this long-staying, semi-tame egret, which was widely reported as being a plumed egret. Three Australian experts who were sent the images all confirmed its identity as a white heron.
