Night time singing

Is it common for Tui to sing during the wee small hours. We have one in the garden that started about two this early morning. Soulful and rather nice.

Just a couple of days ago I was talking to my brother-in-law who lives in Auckland (Dominion Rd) - he mentioned that he'd been hearing a tui in the middle of the night, though I didn't get the impression it was soulful singing - more those simple one and two-note calls. We put it down to street lighting affecting their activity cycles.

Going back a few years ago, I remember hearing Tui singing in the Buller Gorge near midnight. No street lighting for miles there, just the moon and stars!!
