Tui troubles

Postby suzib » Sat Feb 08, 2020 8:52 pm

Hi, I have a garden full of Tui chicks at the moment and there are 2 that seem to have a weird growth coming out from under their beaks, I have attached photos, and another one seems to have some sort of eye deformity, does anyone know what might be causing these problems? I have had Tuis breeding in my garden in Palmerston North for many years and have never seen anything like this in previous years. I do have more photos.

I think that the first two photos show tuis that have sublingual oral fistulas. I don't know what's wrong with the third one.

Looks like oral fistulas to me too. Basically results in a hole through the bottom of the mouth. The 'growth' you see is the tongue poking through.
