SPRING 2022 : The Petrel Station pelagic seabird trips, Tutukaka, NZ

Postby ourspot » Thu Jan 27, 2022 6:03 pm

SPRING 2022 schedule : The Petrel Station pelagic seabird trips (Tutukaka, New Zealand).

– 23rd October 2022 (Sunday) – TRIP FULL
– 29th October 2022 (Saturday) – TRIP FULL
– 6th November 2022 (Sunday) – TRIP FULL
– 18th November 2022 (Friday) – TRIP FULL

In the spring months, all the local breeding seabird species are back in the area in great numbers so there’s always lots of activity on the water. Buller’s Shearwater and Fairy Prion are around in the thousands and are a spectacular birdwatching experience seeing them in the massive feeding workups. Also it’s prime migration time for seabirds heading back through on the way to their southern ocean breeding areas and we've had plenty of scarcer species put in an appearance at this time of year. And the Grey Noddy (Ternlet) usually begin to return in December.

There's still currently a couple spaces left on some of the spring pelagics so get in touch if you're keen for a close up experience with some amazing spring pelagic seabirds - It's always a great day out.

Petrel Station Pelagic RESCHEDULED to 1st NOVEMBER (Tuesday)

Postby ourspot » Thu Oct 27, 2022 4:30 pm

Hi all

The pelagic this Saturday (29 Oct) just got cancelled due to poor forecasted conditions.

So I've rescheduled the trip to go on "TUESDAY, 1st NOVEMBER" instead ... it's a very active time of the year for the seabirds with a great variety of species (and some around in huge numbers) – and it'll also be interesting to see if the Chatham Albatross are still around that we saw last weekend.

I've currently got 4 (possibly 5) people keen and ideally need just 1 or 2 more (there's 3 places left in total) - weather conditions are currently looking great for Tuesday as well.

So get in touch if you're interested in a great day out with the seabirds. You can also check out the trip report from last weekend to give you an idea of what's out there: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11814
